When the first sport shops entered the high streets, you would only be likely to find one in the whole town because they had only just started out and would not have been very popular or well known, whereas now-a-days, you can find three or four on each high street as, over the years, sport has become much popular. Recently, surveys show that around 50% of adults (aged 18 plus) are participating in sports, which means they would need to get some sporting equipment and clothing.
Over the years, Millet Sports has grown all over the country and has more than 100 stores in the high streets and local streets. This isn't as many as JJB or Sports Direct, but is a recent development and is growing over the years.

The main target group these types of brands are targeting, are the sporting communities of all ages. Anyone who plays sport will come to sport shops like Millet Sports to get all the equipment and clothing they need for a sport. It targets all ages.

This has helped get more people into sport as before they would have found it hard to get hold of sport clothing as there wouldn't have been many sporting shops in the UK. Now-a-days, you can go to your local high street and find at least 3 sport shops in the area.

Sports Spectating
Definition/purpose
Sport Spectating is when people watch the sports, for example, people who go to watch football at football stadiums are spectating the sport. It provides revenue for the teams and sport they are watching. People do this because they find it more entertaining than just sitting at home watching it.

This is compared to the 2% 30 years before.
Target Groups
The target groups for sport spectating, is everyone. Everyone and anyone can go to a sports arena and watch their favourite team/athlete participate. For example, football fans would go to football stadiums to watch their favourite team participate for trophies and medals. This, as well as providing entertainment, will help provide profits to the team that lives in the stadium as they have to pay for the tickets and food & drinks inside as well.
Services offered/Functions performed
This type of activity offers new experiences to people who may not have gone to watch a sport before, or who are just getting into sport.
Many sport stadiums, like Old Trafford have a lot behind the game as well as during. They make the experience more enjoyable by letting the fans stand next to the pitch behind the barrier. On a typical match day, Bath City FC will make over a few thousand pounds.

Facility Provision

The facilities added will hopefully prevent kids from hanging around on street corners and causing  trouble.
Scale/Size
Facilities given from the government have been added to most communities to provide a playing area for sporty people. An example of this is in Twerton, Pennyquick Park has been fitted with a ball court area and bench, so people can go there and hang out instead of on the streets. Other areas, such as Culverhay School have been provided with a ball court (funded by the National Lottery), to add to the sports facilities.

Impact on local community?
The impact on the local community would be that less kids would be on the streets causing trouble and the community would seem quieter for the other members of the public. The children will also be able to play sport with others and will encourage them to get into sport, which will help the future of sport.

Before and between being the the Manchester United coaching team, Rene lifted the Arab Cup with Qatar side Al-Etehad and the Qatar version of the FA Cup with Al-Sadd. Profesional Sport

Professional Sports are sports in which the athletes participating get paid for playing it, like football and rugby. Athletes in sports such as football will get paid a large amount every week, for example, Lionel Messi gets paid around £180,000 a week whichworks out at around £8.5million a year.

Most professional sport stars are paid weekly and some after each 'event'. Top level athletes will make somewhere between £1million and, for some, £15million. For example, a footballer like Wayne Rooney earns £12million a year (£250,000 a week), and an F1 driver, like Lewis Hamilton gets paid £75million for five years (£15million a year).
Every sport is paid differently, football is the richest sport in the UK, with rugby in second.
Sports stars don't just get paid for playing. Some will even take on advertisment jobs. Lionel Messi, along with his £8.5million a year wages, gets £17million a year in advertisments he features in like Adidas and pepsi.
The players are paid for doing a job and entertaining the spectators. This, in the long run, will bring in more spectators, bringing money into the club.
You don't just have to play the sport to be paid. Coaches, managers and even pundits are paid by the club, or governing body.
Bath has to sport clubs, one major top level rugby team Bath Rugby RFC, and one semi-professional football team Bath City FC. Every game, it brings in home and away crowds to the stadium and the surrounding area, which generates money for the area and the shops in and around the area.

Sports Development & Co-ordination
Definition/purpose
Sport development is when governing bodies increase knowledge of sport around the world by getting more involved. It is designed to promote opportunities for people to take part in sport and for;
Fun and Enjoyment

Health and well- being benefits

Playing to their potential and progressing to their chosen level

Reducing anti social behaviour and incidence of crime

Competitions and leagues

Sport is developed in the UK in many different ways. From youth clubs, to sport clubs on weekends. National organisations, like FA (Football Association) and SFA (Scottish Football Association) create different youth programmes all the time to get more involved in sport from a younger age.

National organisations, like Sport England help rise the number of participants in sport, and help the more talented from different backgrounds come together and play sports.

Local councils, like BANES, provide funds for sporting clubs in and around the Somerset area to help develop sport in the country.

Scale/size

This development takes place on a worldwide scale and tries to get every nation involved to rise awareness and participants in sport.

Nationally, organisations like Sport England, FA, SFA go around the world raising awareness of sports to third world countries (like Haiti or Somalia), who don't have the facilities, or playing equipment other countries have.

Regionally, organisations such as South West Basketball Association help to develop basketball in the UK, especially in the South West area. It is a volunteer run organisation that provides basketball programs to the Southwest communities.

Target groups

Sport development is targeted for people of all ages who play sport, but mostly for the younger generation and developing the game so they can adapt to it. Their main focuses are on the younger ones coming into sport so they can become top professional athletes and bring glory to there country. For example, Spain have been training there youngsters for at least 15 years differently to most countries (which is why they have been successful lately) by playing them on bigger pitches against each other and playing keep ball and on the ground. This is why the likes of Fabregas, Xavi and Iniesta are excellent with the ball at their feet and keeping it down. Their main aim is to help the younger generations improve in their sport and make them better athletes.
